August 22 is the day when Stage 3, the Queen Stage of the USA Pro Cycling Challenge, comes to Aspen. Many of the world’s most renowned professional cyclists, some fresh off the Tour de France, will streak down Independence Pass, arriving in Aspen in the late afternoon. They’ll be riding right past Aspen Square and it will be a thrill to see them in person!

The next day, August 23, Aspen will also host the start of Stage 4 of the race, with participants riding out of town and back up Independence Pass as they ride from Aspen to Beaver Creek.

Because of the race, there are a number of details we want you to be aware of as you plan for your arrival at Aspen Square:

• Wednesday, August 22, Independence Pass is scheduled be closed in both directions from 10:30am to 6pm for the race, so you can only enter Aspen from the west end of town. That means if you’re driving, you’ll need to travel on Hwy 82 from Glenwood Springs to Aspen. We suggest checking with the Colorado Department of Transportation for any additional road closure information, www.cotrip.org/content/usapcc, as they may not reopen the Pass at the scheduled time. Feel free to call Aspen Square as well, for the latest updates on road closures.

• Thursday, August 23, Independence Pass is scheduled to be closed again from 9am to 2:30pm. Again, we suggest checking with the Colorado Department of Transportation for any additional road closure information, www.cotrip.org/content/usapcc, as they may not reopen the Pass at the scheduled time.

• Most of the downtown core streets will be closed beginning at 6am August 22, but you will be able to reach Aspen Square by car. Once on Main Street, turn right on Aspen Street and follow it up to Durant Street. Turn left on Durant and stay on it to Spring Street. You will be directed by Aspen Square staff into our parking lot.

We are excited to be part of this second year of the Pro Cycling event and think you’ll find this to be a unique “only-in-Aspen” experience you’ll really enjoy. We look forward to your arrival and urge you to call us if you have any questions. See you soon!
