43rd Annual Carbondale Mountain Fair

One of the Roaring Fork Valley's great annual events, Carbondale Mountain Fair is this weekend. Events kick off today for the 43rd Fair, "Wild at Heart: Celebrating Our People, Town, and Wilderness." Recently awarded a designation as a Creative District by the state, the Carbondale-based Fair will celebrate all forms of artistic expression, with a wide offering of arts and crafts, live music and delicious food. Aspen Security Forum Begins Today

The Aspen Institute's annual Aspen Security Forum kicks of today through Saturday, July 26 on the Aspen Meadows Campus. Each summer, the Institute hosts a gathering of high-level present and past government officials from all areas concerned with national security. The fascinating array of speakers this year includes Admiral Eric T. Olsen, Ambassador John Negroponte, Assistant Secretary of Defense Andrew C. Weber, Gen. Martin Dempsey, and former Gen. Aspen Valley Marathon

The Aspen Valley Marathon is this Saturday, July 19. Participants will run on the Rio Grande Trail from Aspen to Basalt, through beautiful river scenery and an elevation change of 1,418 feet. Most of the race is on paved trail, with just 20% on hard-packed dirt. This race is a Boston Marathon qualifier, so be prepared for some fast times! For details, visit www.aspenvalleymarathon.com.
